About this listing

Uniting food and wine . In this country of wine-lovers, the richest wine-growing and wine-making region of Georgia, everyone agrees that the very best wines come from the easternmost part of Georgia, called by Dumas “the garden province of Kakheti.” populated with hospitable, openhearted and straightforward people, who live surrounded by mountain chains, old castles, beautiful churches and drink wine as early as mother’s milk – Kakheti province is a “must do” in list.

The Georgian town of Sighnaghi is located in the eastern part of Kakheti, and is known as the City of Love. The town sits atop a bluff overlooking the Alazani Valley, which is one of Georgia’s most famous wine-producing regions. Sighnaghi is a great place to start a wine tour in Georgia’s prime wine country, especially since several vineyards and wineries are just a short drive from the town’s center . The surreal views of the Greater Caucasus Mountains add an extra level to the scenery.

Any itinerary for Sighnaghi should include a trip to Bodbe Monastery, just 2 km (1.25 miles) outside town. This 9th century monastery houses the grave and relics of St. Nino, who converted Georgia to Christianity in the 4th century.

Try to imagine a tunnel 7.7 Kilometers in length carved into the rock, filled with the best aging wines of Winery Khareba. You will never before have seen such a phenomenon… The touristic complex offers the opportunity of tasting more than 30 varieties of Winery Khareba’s best wines and participation in the cultural activities, such as: Chacha distillation process, Georgian bread baking, Chuchkhela making, grilling meat (Georgian barbeque), harvesting and pressing grapes in Satsnakheli.

Lopota Lake Resort & Spa is ideal for those seeking a peaceful place to rest. Your personal piece of paradise is located in the Kakheti region of Eastern Georgia, surrounded by the famous Caucasus mountains.

Alaverdi Monastery is a Georgian Eastern Orthodox monastery located 25 km from Akhmeta, in the Kakheti region of Eastern Georgia. While parts of the monastery date back to 6th century, the present day cathedral was built in the 11th century by Kvirike III of Kakheti, replacing an older church of St. George.
